“Para” -site
2020
M.Arch - Academic Project
London, UK
“Para” -site, from greek ‘para’ along side the site, explores the role of boundaries in a high density urban context and its spatial implications caused due to a breach in the hoarding site perimeter. It questions the limitations of involvement in the erection of said perimeter by the developer, the contractor and the public , proposing a deep boundary condition that aims to preserve the once endangered public realm while forming a congenial relationship with the entities on both side of the border.

The project is speculative in nature, as it proposes a dilated boundary past its material limitations, making use of it as a tool to revitalise the surrounding public space oppressed by the hoarding site in a manner that is of benefit to both entities involved, e.g. the local residents and the developer.

Trough graphical, on-site and physical experimentation, a series of volumetric elements were developed in order to assemble a new porous hoarding perimeter that would surround the construction site, while allowing residents to engage visually with current stage of the development. The various routes take the individual in various key locations that would give specific views and indications of what is going on within the hoarding site, permitting access to the public to what was once closed off behind a barrier.

Much like a pop-up event, the public squares, covered spaces and skybridge change the monotonous transition period between an old and new building, possibly now being celebrated by the public.

The space which was once occupied by the hoarding site, is somewhat reclaimed and altered, giving a novel feeling to resident and visitors about the opportunities that public space offers. At its core the proposal aims to create a path across the hoarding perimeter with elements of wider public spaces in two key locations which have been or will be majorly affected during the development process.

Le Theatre Janus
2019
M.Arch - Academic Project
Paris, France

"In this project, architecture will not be the goal, but rather a means through which questions the present to build the future. Thinking a theatre in 2020 implies clear positions that will lead to a proposal that will be able to question much broader themes: the symbol of the city and the question of identity, cultural practices and their economic, ethical, social and spatial value."

The project proposes to expand the scale of reach of Theatres and distance public infrastructure from a purely commercial realm, but also to allow for the general public to have more exposure to the arts on a daily basis. No distinction has to be made regarding what art is deemed worthy for the people, may it be underground art or the higher arts.

The Theatre will act as a medium, more specifically the void will act as a funnel to concentrate the performances happening across Paris and giving them space and an audience, by doing so the proposal ceases to be an object in the city with a specific programme, but truly attempts to integrate within the urban fabric, in the hopes that it would benefit the city as a public space rather than a commercial one.

Le Theatre Janus, questions the identity of modern Theatre trough social, spatial and cultural values that are more in line with the Parisian publics interest, in attempt to distance Theatre from becoming urban furniture but rather a space were architecture serves the cultural practices rather than defining them.

The project would be part of the public infrastructure of Paris, and the metro would serve as a beneficial link to the urban culture.

Earlier in 2011 a project to expand and decentralise the metro in Paris, named Grand Paris express, was put forward and now in 2020, Porte de Clichy will have a new Metro station built, in addition to its other two lines.

Shatwell Farm
2018
B.Arch - Academic Project
UK

"Shatwell Farm is part of the Hadspaden estate owned by Neil Hobhouse, as the client sold a share of the land in order to develop, in collaboration with an international entity, a high-end resort-hotel in that stretches across the land. This while having a detached development geared towards entertainment and the arts located in Shatwell Farm, with an intent to display the Drawing Matter Collection."

The Project envisions a mixed used exhibition, recreational and multi-media space that allows for the collection to be put to use for visitors and students alike.

My efforts lie in designing a space that is scaled to the surrounding landscape, flexible in its usage trough-out the year, in order to function for large scale events to small lectures according to the needs of the client, while also fulfilling his wish for a possible summer-school.

Photography

Label: RPA Italiana
Format: 35, 120 and ‘Instant Print’
Camera: Polaroid SX70, Nikon L35AF, Nikon TWAF, Olympus OM1, Olympus OM10 and Pentax K1000
Genre: Architecture

The ‘HOPE’ exhibition by Erick Ifergan, was what sparked the a vivid interest in analogue photography in 2014. Since then, trough the lens of 35mm small format across a variety of cameras, it allowed me to experience and grasp further insights in both atmospheric spaces, emotional reactions to architecture and the perceived overlay of geometries. It has
been a tool that excels at offering perspectives and ethereal insights trough the lens.
